Watch This feeds our need for Sondheim and introduces new audiences to the painful joy of his work. Now, can someone please give them some money..! - The Music, 2017
Following unprecedented times, when our industry is still recovering, we at Watch This are doing our utmost to survive and continue to create work for artists and audiences. If you've checked out our home page, you know all about our story and our values as an artist-led organisation. Here's a snapshot of what we want to offer for every production:
Affordable tickets - This has always been a core value. Our price points are strategically tiered to ensure the widest range of patrons can access and experience our work, including those who may not otherwise attend musicals. We are committed to keeping our ticket prices low as we know affordability of theatre tickets can be a barrier for so many people. Our average ticket price is $50 which is 5 times cheaper than a premium ticket to a commercial musical.
AUSLAN interpreted – Offering an Auslan interpreted performance for audiences who are d/Deaf and communicate using Australian Sign Language (Auslan).
Relaxed Performances – For audiences that would benefit from a more relaxed performance focusing on relaxing – adapting our productions to be more inclusive to people with autism, sensory sensitivities, learning disabilities, dementia as well as those living with anxiety or who have experienced trauma.
Wheelchair Accessible - Here at Watch This we strive for access. Over recent years, we've strived to ensure we program our works into wheelchair accessible venues.
Over the past ten years, we have collaborated with 250+ artists on and off the stage and delivered more than $740k in fees and wages. Collaboration is key to the success of the company, from the Committee of Management to the programming of productions, from auditions, to rehearsals and finally the productions. Artists and creatives are the backbone of the company. We have continuously worked to increase artist fees whilst maintaining the accessibility of our seasons - not an easy feat!
We are committed to expanding our vision via our FreshMint Theatre initiative - a platform dedicated to the development of contemporary Australian music theatre, via readings and workshops with a focus on promoting diverse voices and inclusive theatre practice.
We've introduced an education program that facilitates workshops for students and their teachers to work with top industry professionals on curriculum-based activities. And we've created a five-part digital documentary series The Art of Making Art, celebrating the incredible work and talent of our designers.
We prioritise equal opportunity for women and LGTBQIA+ and people from IBPOC and CALD backgrounds in all of our productions, on and off stage, including our Committee of Management (70% women, 50% people of colour).
If our ambition and tenacity inspire you, we humbly invite our patrons and supporters to consider a timely tax-deductible donation as we continue to realise work for artists and audiences.
Watch This Inc has deductible gift recipient (DGR) endorsement via the Register of Cultural Organisations. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
