Watch This is a bold, grass-roots organisation presenting outstanding, sophisticated musical theatre to audiences in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Our ambition and commitment to the highest production/ performance standards attract teams of wonderfully talented artists and creatives. To date we have garnered an impressive 12 Green Room Award nominations for our three Melbourne seasons: Assassins 2013, Pacific Overtures 2014 (winning Best Supporting Actor - Adrian Li Donni) and Company 2015. We've also collaborated on a model for touring our work to regional centres with Assassins in 2014 and again in 2016, with Company, in partnership with Regional Arts Victoria.
From the outset, our goal has been to launch a Sondheim repertory company - an Australian first - creating opportunities for artists and audiences to regularly explore an extraordinary, diverse and challenging body of work by one of the undisputed masters of contemporary music theatre. We are passionate about creating exciting, immediate theatrical experiences for theatre-goers. We are also committed to ensuring that these experiences are available to as many people as possible - a philosophy that informs the relatively simple matter of ticket pricing to more complex touring proposals!
All projects to date have been made possible by the generosity of the Lyngala Foundation and other visionary individuals/ organisations, including the Opera & Arts Support Group. Most recently, Watch This are grateful for critical support from the Robert Salzer Foundation.
Watch This has recently been included on the Register of Cultural Organisations - an incredible endorsement of our contribution to the sector. To Support our dynamic young organisation, why not make a tax deductible donation today?
We are beyond excited to announce our 2018 production - a summer season of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's romantic tour-de-force, A Little Night Music.
Winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score, Sondheim's glorious operatic farce premiered in 1973, based on Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night.
It is midsummer in Sweden. On a magical night that smiles three times, an ageing actress, her ex-lover, his virgin bride, a sex-starved divinity student, a buffoonish count and his long-suffering wife are drawn into a tangled and hilarious web of love affairs.
Featuring a lush score including 'A Weekend in the Country', 'Liaisons', 'The Miller's Son', 'Every Day A Little Death' and possibly the best known Sondheim ballad, 'Send in the Clowns, A Little Night Music is sure to delight audiences as it travels from Geelong Performing Arts Centre to the National Theatre Melbourne and finally, Whitehorse Centre from 22 February - 10 March, 2018.
