About Us
Watch This

Australia's first and only Sondheim repertory company, Watch This is a bold, grass-roots organisation presenting outstanding, sophisticated musical theatre to audiences in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Our ambition and commitment to the highest production/ performance standards attract teams of wonderfully talented artists and creatives.

In six short years, we've garnered an enviable reputation in a highly competitive field, boasting twelve Green Room Award nominations alongside multi-million dollar commercial and state sponsored productions, with Adrian Li Donni winning Best Supporting Actor for Pacific Overtures in 2014. We have also broken ground by successfully touring full-scale musicals to regional centres.

We are passionate about creating exciting, immediate theatrical experiences for theatre-goers. We are also committed to ensuring that these experiences are available to as many people as possible - a philosophy that informs the relatively simple matter of ticket pricing to more complex touring proposals.

Past productions include Assassins, Pacific Overtures, Company, Merrily We Roll Along and most recently, A Little Night Music starring Nadine Garner and John O'May. All projects to date have been made possible by the generosity of the Lyngala Foundation and other visionary individuals/ organisations, including the Opera & Arts Support Group and Robert Salzer Foundation. Since 2016, Watch This has recently been included on the Register of Cultural Organisations - an incredible endorsement of our contribution to the sector.

We're so excited to announce that our 2019 season is Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical masterpiece about art and artistry, Sunday in the Park with George. Our friends at Aussie Theatre once again have the scoop - check out this humbling feature to celebrate our announcement!

Inspired by Seurat's Impressionist painting, 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte', Sunday in the Park with George is an iconic work in its own right. One of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, this moving study won a Pulitzer Prize, two Olivier awards and was nominated for an astounding ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

In Paris, 1884, George Seurat strives to transform the way we see. While he sketches in a park, preoccupied with composition, balance, light and harmony, his subjects are busy wrestling with life in a changing world - in particular, his muse and mistress, Dot, who feels both alive and invisible within his gaze. A century on, another visual artist - also named George - faces a similar dilemma as he attempts to forge a new direction amidst the pressure of high-end commissions and the merciless glare of New York critics.

Tickets are onsale now at Southbank Theatre Complex, The Lawler and Geelong Performing Arts Centre - it's a strictly limited 13 performance season so secure your tickets now! (We'll be announcing our third venue shortly so Watch This space!)

And as always, you can make a tax deductible donation to Watch This in the lead up to Christmas. We'll put it to excellent use, we promise!
